Program Note

The City of Doors is a work that draws on ideas from disparate musical, narrative, or technical sources, but all of which can be derived from the world of interactive entertainment in some form. The idea was to use these materials in tandem abstracted from their original sources, and reconfigure them into new musical structures.

The title has several different layers of meaning in relation to the work. It has a direct correlation to how we interface with information through technical mediums as an end-user, but in this medium specifically has parallels to the computational processes behind resolving view matrices and polygonal transformations. It also directly refers to a torus-shaped city in which the conceptual process behind the work is somewhat relational to the features of the city itself.
